Meghalaya Police Investigate Raja Raghuvanshi's Murder: Key Developments

Investigation Progress in Raja Raghuvanshi's Case

Indore, June 26: Following a thorough nine-day investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Meghalaya departed from Indore on Thursday.

The SIT transported crucial evidence, including a locally made firearm discovered in a drain in Indore, back to Meghalaya. In the past week, three individuals—Silome James (a property broker), Balvir Ahirwar (a security guard), and Lokendra Tomar (the flat owner)—were apprehended across various locations in Madhya Pradesh.

These suspects are now in transit to Shillong for questioning alongside the primary accused: Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha, and his three associates, who were detained between June 8 and 10.

An officer from Indore Police indicated that a weapon may have gone missing along with other belongings from a flat where Sonam, Raja Raghuvanshi's spouse, had stayed after fleeing Meghalaya post-murder.

Meanwhile, Vipin Raghuvanshi, Raja's brother, mentioned that he learned through media reports about the recovery of a firearm, laptop, and mobile phone during the investigation.

"I found out that a pistol was retrieved, possibly from a bag or near a drain, along with a laptop or mobile device. We are optimistic that these findings will shed more light on the case," Vipin stated on Thursday.

Addressing Sonam's brother Govind, who has been vocal in the media expressing support for Raja's family and seeking justice, Vipin questioned why Govind has not publicly called for severe punishment for his sister.

"If he genuinely believes his sister is guilty and stands with us, why isn't he demanding the harshest penalties for her?" Vipin Raghuvanshi remarked.

Raja Raghuvanshi, who wed Sonam on May 11, was reported missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His disfigured body was discovered in a deep gorge in the Sohra region of East Khasi Hills on June 2.

The Meghalaya Police are convinced that the recovery of the firearm and ammunition substantiates their suspicions regarding the meticulous planning behind this gruesome murder.

During the investigation period from June 17 to 25, the Meghalaya Police conducted searches at multiple locations in Indore.

The SIT also engaged with the families of Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi to discuss Sonam's behavior before and after her marriage to Raja.
