New Regulations for Vehicle Rentals in Meghalaya

Guwahati, Aug 8: The government of Meghalaya has unveiled a new policy aimed at regulating the rental of motorcycles and vehicles for tourists, prioritizing their safety.

Following a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted the absence of a regulatory framework for renting private vehicles and two-wheelers to visitors.

“Many tourists visit our state and often rent vehicles from private owners. Until now, there has been no system in place to oversee this sector or guarantee the safety of these tourists,” Sangma explained.

In response, the government has developed a policy to oversee rental services for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

According to the new regulations, individuals or businesses intending to rent their vehicles to tourists must register with the Transport Department.
