Suspects Remanded in Custody

Sonam Raghuwanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuwanshi during their honeymoon, has been placed in police custody for eight days. The district and sessions court in Shillong has also ordered the same duration of custody for four of Sonam's accomplices. According to Vivek Sim, the Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills district, the police had requested a ten-day remand for all suspects, but the court approved only eight days.


Arrests and Investigation Details

Sonam, who was apprehended in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, was brought to Shillong at midnight on Tuesday. Other suspects, arrested in Indore, arrived on Wednesday under transit remand. A senior official indicated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) sought police custody to reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra. The SIT has secured six additional days of remand for the suspects captured in Indore and three days for the individual arrested in Ghazipur.


Background of the Case

Raja Raghuwanshi, a transport businessman from Indore, was on his honeymoon with his wife Sonam (24) in Meghalaya when the incident occurred. Sonam was arrested in Ghazipur, while her associates were detained in Indore for their alleged involvement in plotting Raja's murder. The SIT requested police custody to connect the dots at the crime scene in Sohra. Raja and Sonam went missing on May 23 in the Sohra area, and Raja's body was discovered in a gorge on June 2.
