Meghalaya Government Prioritizes Completion of Bangladesh Border Fencing

Shillong, January 16: On Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to expedite the completion of the fencing along the international border with Bangladesh.

During a press briefing, Sangma highlighted that the Government of India is actively involved in addressing this issue.

He noted that there remains a 40-km segment of the 440-km border that is yet to be fenced, with challenges such as population concerns, land acquisition, and ongoing legal disputes impeding progress.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining vigilance along the Bangladesh border, the Chief Minister mentioned that the Meghalaya Government, along with BSF personnel and relevant agencies, is on high alert regarding this matter. Sangma also revealed that a review meeting took place on December 24, 2025, involving various agencies, including the BSF and Intelligence Bureau, to evaluate border security measures.
