In a thrilling display of football, Meghalaya triumphed over Andhra Pradesh with an 8-1 victory in the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship. This win positions Meghalaya favorably for a quarter-final spot. Other notable matches included Jharkhand's narrow victory against Rajasthan and Kerala's dominant performance over Chandigarh. Uttarakhand also showcased their strength with a 9-1 win against Andaman and Nicobar. As the tournament progresses, Meghalaya only needs a draw in their next match to secure their place in the next round.

Meghalaya Advances in Championship

On Wednesday, Meghalaya moved closer to securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship by defeating Andhra Pradesh decisively at the Rama Krishna Mission Ashrama. In other matches, Jharkhand triumphed over Rajasthan, while Kerala and Uttarakhand also claimed victories in their respective matches.


Group A Match Results

Meghalaya 8 (Alex Manar 9', 45', Mebanlamlynti Masharing 16', 28', Ryan Gibbs Kharnaior 48', 50', Phermanbha Lyngdoh 58', Sholinstar Syngkli 84') defeated Andhra Pradesh 1 (B Bharath Kumar Reddy 25').


In a stunning performance, Meghalaya overwhelmed Andhra Pradesh with an 8-1 scoreline at Ground 1 of the RKM Ashrama. Key players included Alex Manar, Mebanlamlynti, and Ryan Gibbs Kharnaior, each scoring two goals, while Phermanbha Lyngdoh and Sholinstar Syngkli contributed one goal each. B Bharath Kumar Reddy managed to score the lone goal for Andhra Pradesh.


In another Group A encounter, Jharkhand edged past Rajasthan with a score of 2-1. Rajasthan initially took the lead with a goal from Rudra Pratap Singh in the 6th minute, but Jharkhand equalized just before halftime through Roushan Kumar and secured the win with Animesh Champia's goal in the 79th minute.


With this victory, Meghalaya now leads Group A with nine points from three matches. They only need a draw against Rajasthan on May 17 to confirm their top position and advance to the quarter-finals.


Group C Match Results

Chandigarh 1 (Sarthak Ghosh 70') lost to Kerala 5 (Sheril Shaji Thomas 3', 12', 29', Calwin Thomas 71', Usman TH 86').


In Group C, Kerala achieved a significant 5-1 victory over Chandigarh. Sheril Shaji Thomas scored a hat-trick in the first half, establishing a strong lead for Kerala. Although Sarthak Ghosh scored for Chandigarh in the 70th minute, Kerala's Calwin Thomas and Usman TH added two more goals to secure the win.


Uttarakhand 9 (Sanjay Mehra 5', Yash Mittal 25', Gourav Singh 36' p, 75', Harshit Mahar 38', 67', Deboshish Mazumdar 81', Abhinav Yadav 87', Naveen Kumar 90+3' og) defeated Andaman & Nicobar 1 (P Mohammed Hasir 26').


In another match, Uttarakhand dominated Andaman and Nicobar with a score of 9-1. Sanjay Mehra and Yash Mittal scored early goals, but P Mohammed Hasir responded for Andaman and Nicobar. Uttarakhand then surged ahead with multiple goals from Gourav Singh and Harshit Mahar, while Deboshish Mazumdar and Abhinav Yadav added late goals. An own goal by Naveen Kumar capped off the match.


Uttarakhand currently holds the provisional lead in Group C with three points from one match, while Kerala trails closely behind on goal difference.
