Meghalaya CM Promises Swift Justice in Honeymoon Murder Case

Commitment to Justice
Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, has assured that the state government will expedite the trial of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, aiming for a prompt delivery of justice for the 29-year-old businessman from Indore, who was tragically killed during his honeymoon in the state.
Sangma expressed, "We want the judicial proceedings to be concluded as quickly as possible. We will take all necessary actions to facilitate this process and ensure the trial moves forward without delay."
Arrest and Investigation Updates
This commitment follows a significant breakthrough in the investigation, revealing a shocking murder plot allegedly orchestrated by Raja's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, shortly after their wedding on May 11.
Sonam was apprehended by Meghalaya Police on Monday evening in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 1,200 km away, and is expected to arrive in Shillong later today.
Authorities report that Sonam allegedly conspired with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to hire three accomplices to murder her husband during their honeymoon, just two weeks post-marriage.
Further Arrests and Police Commendation
In connection with this case, three additional suspects, including 21-year-old Raj Kushwaha, have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Sangma praised the Meghalaya Police for their swift investigative work, stating, "They quickly assembled the facts but were careful not to disclose too much initially to avoid jeopardizing the investigation."
Clarification on Media Misrepresentation
Reflecting on the initial media coverage, Sangma expressed his disappointment, noting, "It is unfortunate that some national media outlets misrepresented the situation and unfairly implicated the people of Meghalaya. However, the truth has now emerged."
He emphasized the hospitality and peace-loving nature of the people in Meghalaya and the Northeast, stating, "They treat all visitors like family and are respectful and caring."
Timeline of Events
Raja and Sonam were married on May 11 in Indore and began their honeymoon in Shillong on May 21. They were reported missing on May 23 after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village.
A scooter rented by the couple was found in Sohrarim on May 24, leading Raja's family to file a missing persons report the following day.
On June 2, Raja's body was discovered in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls, about 20 km from their last known location. Notably, no gold ring or chain was found on him, and a blood-stained machete was recovered the next day, marking a crucial piece of evidence that suggested involvement from outside the area.
