Details of the Assault
The incident took place on Sunday when a woman from Manipur and her transgender friend from Assam were attacked by a group of men in Delhi. This confrontation arose after the woman challenged the men over their racially offensive comments, as reported by local media.
The injured woman was subsequently transported to Safdarjung Hospital, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition.
On Monday, the Delhi Police announced that a minor had been detained in connection with the assault, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects involved.
This incident marks the second occurrence in recent weeks involving attacks on individuals from the North East in Delhi.
Earlier, on February 20, three women from Arunachal Pradesh experienced racial harassment in the city. The Delhi Police reported that a couple was charged for allegedly hurling racial slurs and intimidating the women, who resided in the same building.
The conflict reportedly began when debris fell into the couple's home while the women were having an air conditioner installed. The women claimed they were insulted with comments suggesting they worked in “massage parlours” and should sell momos.
