Meghalaya Activist Files Complaint Against YouTuber for Alleged Human Sacrifice Claims
Complaint Filed Over Defamatory Claims
Shillong, July 17: A local activist has lodged a complaint with the police against a YouTuber and an astrologer who allegedly stated in a video that tribal communities in Meghalaya continue to engage in human sacrifice.
According to a police spokesperson, a formal case has been initiated regarding this matter.
The activist, identified as Enlang, has also reached out to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) to request action against the individuals involved.
In the complaint, Enlang highlighted that the video, which was uploaded on June 13, contains defamatory and inflammatory content that has harmed the reputation of Meghalaya's tribal groups.
The YouTube channel, run by content creator Raghav Sharma, featured astrologer Sushil Guru, who allegedly made claims that 'tribals in Meghalaya still practice human sacrifice and cannibalism.'
The complainant noted that the video, which includes what he describes as 'hate speech,' has gained significant traction online.
Enlang emphasized that the assertions made are not only false and derogatory but also intended to provoke communal discord and damage the image of the scheduled tribes in Meghalaya.
"These statements represent a severe cultural affront and an effort to vilify an entire community," the complaint states.
It urges the NCST to take immediate action and instruct the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, along with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, to remove the video and any associated posts.
As of now, the NCST has not provided an official statement on the issue.
