Meet the Talented Indian Contenders at the 2026 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai!

Exciting Times Ahead for Indian Competitors

Bhubaneswar: The 48th WorldSkills Competition is set to unfold from September 22 to 27 in Shanghai, China, specifically at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. This prestigious event will see over 1,400 young talents from 70 countries, including India, showcasing their skills across 64 different categories.

Prior to this global competition, each nation conducted regional and national contests to identify their top participants. In India, the best performers from the IndiaSkills Competition were selected to represent the country in Shanghai. Notably, Odisha excelled in the IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26 held in New Delhi, securing the highest number of medals. From this pool, 13 outstanding competitors were chosen to join the Indian delegation for the WorldSkills event.

The Indian team comprises talented individuals such as Debasish Gouda and Prasad Kumar Das in Landscape Gardening, Priyanshu De in Web Technologies, and Rasmita Kaur Hanspal in Hotel Reception, among others. They traveled to Shanghai via Bangkok from New Delhi, eager to make their mark in the competition starting September 21. The 13 competitors from Odisha are particularly motivated to excel, with Gouda and Das representing India in Landscape Gardening after winning gold medals at the IndiaSkills 2025–26.

Before heading to Shanghai, both competitors underwent extensive training in Ahmedabad and Noida, guided by experienced mentors. Additionally, those who excelled in the OdishaSkills and IndiaSkills competitions were honored with the Chief Minister’s Skill Award during a state-level event coinciding with World Youth Skills Day. As in previous years, there is optimism that Odisha's participants will shine, achieving success and bringing pride to both the state and the nation at the WorldSkills Competition.
