Meenakshi Goyat's Remarkable Victory

Meenakshi Goyat, who earned a silver medal at the Asian Championships, expressed her joy after defeating World Championships bronze medalist Vinesh Phogat during the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) women's trials. This victory was crucial for her aspirations to join the Asian Games squad, as she aims to become a world champion this year.


The 53 kg category was the highlight of the trials, where Meenakshi's unexpected win over Vinesh, with a score of 6-4 in the semifinals, stood out. However, she faced a setback in the finals, losing to Antim Panghal 3-2. Although she did not qualify for the Asian Games set to commence in September in Japan, her victory against Vinesh remains a significant achievement.

In an interview, Meenakshi shared her thoughts on the match, stating, "It was a fantastic victory. I aimed to fight until the end without focusing on the outcome." She acknowledged making some mistakes during the bout but emphasized the excitement of competing against Vinesh.
