Restrictions on Meat Preparation for Kanwar Yatra

Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh - On July 28, authorities announced a ban on the cooking and serving of meat in hotels and eateries located along the Kanwar Yatra route in Muzaffarnagar district. This regulation is enforced annually, as confirmed by officials.

In preparation for the pilgrimage, food safety officials have initiated inspections of shops, hotels, and eateries along the route to ensure that devotees have access to pure and safe food options. Archana Dheeran, the Assistant Commissioner of Food, stated that not only is meat cooking prohibited, but these establishments are also instructed to refrain from using onions and garlic in their dishes. She emphasized that compliance with this rule is a yearly practice, and new hotels or eateries are informed accordingly.

To monitor food items, six teams of officials have been formed. Dheeran noted that measures for food safety have been implemented, requiring food vendors to display their details, licenses, and QR codes from the Food Safety Connect app. Additionally, to prevent overcharging, standard rates for 21 essential items have been established by district officials.

The food safety department has mandated that food handlers must wear gloves, and the use of artificial colors is strictly prohibited.
