MEA Denies Claims of Foreign Influence in Delhi Protests

New Delhi, July 25: On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) addressed a viral post that falsely claimed the Central government had confirmed there were no foreign entities involved in the protests by youth at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, was reportedly misquoted, as he had stated he had no information to share on the matter at that time.
The misleading post originated from an X account named "PulseNewsBreaking" and has since been labeled as inaccurate.
The MEA responded through a direct post from its official FactCheck account, stating, "The post is misleading and misrepresents the statement of the Spokesperson."
During a biweekly briefing, the spokesperson had remarked, "Madhu, regarding the allegations of foreign funding and related claims about the ongoing protests, I do not have any information on this matter to share with you at this time," the MEA clarified.
The misleading post on PulseNewsBreaking's X account, initially written in Telugu, claimed: "No Pakistan Funding, No Hand of Chinese Agents." It asserted that the Central Government had confirmed there were no foreign powers behind the protests at Jantar Mantar, dismissing claims from BJP supporters that the protests were part of a conspiracy funded by foreign entities.
Additionally, the post stated, "The Centre has made it clear that there are no conspiracies from Pakistan or China involved in this protest, and there is no evidence of foreign influence. The Central Government urges the public not to fall for the false narratives circulating on social media," it added.
PulseNewsBreaking further suggested that this clarification had dealt a significant blow to BJP supporters who had been vocally asserting that the protests were part of a conspiracy.
