Mayawati Criticizes Caste-Based Politics in Press Conference
Mayawati's Strong Remarks on Caste Politics
During a recent press conference, Mayawati, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), made significant comments regarding caste politics. She accused opportunistic and self-serving organizations, controlled by casteist parties, of deliberately misleading innocent BSP members. According to her, these groups invite BSP members to their meetings and events, claiming to advance their mission while invoking the names of Kanshiram and herself.
Mayawati asserted that if there were any truth in their claims, they would not align themselves with opposition parties. Instead, they should connect with and support the BSP to strengthen it. She urged Dalits and marginalized communities to be cautious of these casteist parties to prevent them from weakening or eliminating the BSP in the country. Furthermore, she alleged that these parties are manipulating Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to hinder BSP candidates from winning elections.
The former Chief Minister expressed that many opposition parties, including her own, advocate for conducting all elections using ballot papers. While she acknowledged that such a change seems unlikely under the current government, she remains hopeful that a shift in power could bring about this reform. She encouraged BSP members not to lose hope regarding this possibility, noting that the EVM system could change given the current political landscape. If ballot papers are reinstated, it could signal a return to better days for the BSP.
