Mayawati Criticizes Offensive Comments by SP Spokesperson

Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed her disapproval on Friday regarding the derogatory remarks made by Rajkumar Bhati, a spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party (SP), against the Brahmin community. She emphasized that these comments have sparked widespread outrage and urged the SP leadership to address the issue seriously.

In a post on X, Mayawati described the remarks as inappropriate and offensive, asserting that they have undermined the dignity and self-respect of the Brahmin community.

She further stated that the recent disrespectful comments made by a prominent national spokesperson of the SP have naturally led to significant outrage and condemnation. Despite a police case being filed in response to the controversy, there are no signs of the situation calming down. The silence from the SP leadership, given their narrow caste-based politics, has exacerbated the issue, allowing it to escalate further. The atmosphere remains increasingly tense.

Mayawati insisted that the irresponsible statements from the SP spokesperson have harmed the dignity, respect, and self-esteem of the Brahmin community, and this matter should be taken seriously. She called for the SP chief to acknowledge the issue, apologize to the Brahmin community, and express regret—actions she deemed necessary. The BSP leader also highlighted that this controversy reveals the casteist strategy and character of the SP, asserting that the BSP has always respected all communities, including Brahmins, Dalits, backward classes, and Muslims.

Moreover, she pointed out that the recent developments further demonstrate to the public that the SP's casteist strategy and attitude—especially towards the Brahmin community—has not changed; in fact, it has deepened. The growing discontent within the Brahmin community regarding the current government's attitude and behavior is evident to all.
