Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: A Rising Star

Matthew Hayden, the former Australian opener, has expressed his belief in the capabilities of India's young batting prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. During a recent interview, he highlighted the 15-year-old's bravery, mental fortitude, and impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), suggesting that he possesses the qualities necessary to become a world-class cricketer. Sooryavanshi recently made headlines by scoring 151 runs in three T20I matches against Zimbabwe, earning him the Player of the Series title as India achieved a clean sweep in the series.

In his debut T20I series against England, Sooryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest Indian to debut internationally.

A Bright Future Ahead

Hayden commended Sooryavanshi's exceptional talent and growth, while also noting that there is still room for improvement at the elite level. He emphasized that the young player's future success will depend on how he navigates his career. "Vaibhav has a vast reservoir of talent, and we are all thrilled to witness his progress. However, as he has learned, there is still much to accomplish at the highest level, and I am confident he will rise to the challenge. He is a remarkable young talent with significant potential, and ultimately, it will be his decision on how to mold his career," Hayden remarked.

Outstanding IPL Season

Sooryavanshi's debut for India followed an extraordinary IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, including one century and five half-centuries. His explosive performance made him the leading run-scorer of the tournament, setting a record for the most sixes in a season with 72. He also swept the post-season awards, claiming the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes titles.

Earlier this year, he showcased his talent at the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scoring 439 runs and earning the Player of the Tournament accolade. His outstanding performances at both levels have further highlighted his immense potential.
