Celebrating Fitness Across the Nation

On May 24, a remarkable 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle India will take place, uniting citizens at over 8,000 locations across the country. This event, which honors Commonwealth Games Day, serves as a significant tribute to India's sporting future and the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games set to be held in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad: The Heart of the Celebration

The celebrations will be spearheaded by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya from Ahmedabad, the city chosen to host the historic Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030, at the scenic Sabarmati Riverfront. He will be joined by Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi.

The theme for the Ahmedabad event is "A New Icon for a Fitter India - Pedalling to 2030," and it is anticipated to attract thousands of cyclists, youth volunteers, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts. According to a press release, Mandaviya stated, "The entire country is excited about India hosting the 100th Commonwealth Games in 2030. On May 24, we will celebrate this momentous occasion, bringing together sports fans, athletes, coaches, and the entire sports community to honor our successful bid and prepare for the event. This celebration aims to foster awareness and cultivate a sports culture among the youth, making it a largely youth-driven initiative."

Star-Studded Participation

Adding to the excitement, actor Ayushmann Khurrana will participate in the Ahmedabad festivities, alongside several distinguished Commonwealth and Olympic medallists. Notable athletes such as hockey players Rajani Etimarpu, Gurjit Kaur, and Sonika Tandi, as well as shooters Ankur Mittal and Anjum Moudgil, and badminton player Trupti Murgunde will also be present.

Nationwide Engagement

Union Ministers, State Ministers, and Members of Parliament are expected to engage in events throughout their regions, further enhancing the spirit of Sports Jan Bhagidari.

In keeping with the nationwide reach of the Sundays on Cycle initiative, every State and Union Territory will host Commonwealth Games-themed celebrations. SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, Khelo India Centres, and various locations will organize special rides and activities dedicated to India's Commonwealth Games journey. Former Commonwealth Games champions, Olympians, and elite athletes will join citizens in their cities, symbolically transferring the CWG spirit from stadiums to streets and from elite sports to grassroots.

Momentum for Future Sporting Success

This 75th edition is not just a cycling event; it represents a nationwide celebration that showcases India's rise as a global sports power. A special Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition will be inaugurated in Ahmedabad and at all SAI regional centres, highlighting India's sporting achievements over the past 12 years, including milestones from the Khelo India Mission, the expansion of sports infrastructure, and the growth of the sports goods manufacturing sector.

The initiative aims to deepen public engagement around India's hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games while building momentum towards the country's long-term Olympic aspirations. Across the nation, quiz competitions, reel-making contests, and torch design challenges organized through the MY Bharat platform have already attracted participation from over one lakh youngsters, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among youth for India's sporting future.
