Significant Drug Seizure in Kerala

Kochi/Bhubaneswar: The Kerala Excise Department made a significant drug bust on Sunday, confiscating 110 kg of ganja and apprehending four individuals in Angamaly. The suspects are reported to be from Odisha.

The seizure occurred during a focused anti-drug operation executed by the Angamaly Excise Range, according to officials.

Authorities claim that the arrested individuals were engaged in smuggling ganja from Odisha into Kerala.

As per the Excise Department, the suspects traveled via a long-distance train to Palakkad before switching to passenger and MEMU trains, which are less frequently inspected, to evade detection.

They reportedly disembarked at smaller railway stations before moving the drugs to various distribution points.

The Excise team intercepted the suspects near the Angamaly railway station, recovering ganja hidden in multiple large packets.

Officials noted that this seizure is among the largest of ganja in the Ernakulam district in recent months.

A thorough investigation is currently underway to trace the supply chain and identify additional individuals involved in the interstate drug trafficking network.

The suspects have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, presented before the local court, and placed in judicial custody.
