Imphal, June 14: In a coordinated effort, the police of Manipur, alongside central agencies, successfully uncovered a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition during late-night operations in five valley districts, as reported by officials on Saturday.


Acting on precise intelligence, teams from the state police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Indian Army, and Assam Rifles managed to seize 328 firearms and over 7,000 rounds of ammunition across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal districts.


"On the night of June 13-14, following specific intelligence regarding a significant cache of arms hidden in various locations within the valley districts, a joint operation was initiated by our team,” stated Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, Additional Director General of Police, Manipur.


The recovered items included 151 SLR rifles, 65 INSAS rifles, 73 other types of rifles, five carbines, two MP5 submachine guns, 12 light machine guns, six AK series rifles, two Amogh rifles, one mortar, six pistols, one AR-15, and two flare guns.


“In total, the security forces retrieved 328 firearms along with 591 assorted magazines, 3,534 rounds for SLR rifles, 2,186 rounds for INSAS rifles, 2,252 rounds for .303 rifles, 234 rounds for AK rifles, 407 rounds for Amogh rifles, 20 rounds for 9-mm pistols, 10 grenades, three lathodes, and seven detonators,” the official added.


Lhatoo emphasized that this operation represents a crucial success for the security forces in their ongoing mission to restore peace, maintain public order, and ensure the safety of citizens and their properties in the conflict-affected region.


Additionally, senior police officials are actively collaborating with all security partners to ensure that such operations are conducted consistently and effectively, according to the official.
