Congress Workers Rally Against Punjab Government

Thousands of Congress party members from across Punjab gathered to protest against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to fulfill promises made to the public. A key focus of the protest was the unfulfilled commitment to provide women with a monthly stipend of ₹1,000, with demands for the government to pay the accumulated dues from the past four years. According to a statement, party leaders harshly criticized the government's overall failure, particularly regarding the deteriorating law and order situation and the economy in the state.

On the first day of the budget session, Congress planned to encircle the Punjab Assembly. Party workers assembled outside the Congress headquarters before marching towards the assembly.

However, police detained them and prevented access to the assembly, which had been secured like a fortress. A significant police presence was deployed at the protest site to stop the workers from reaching the assembly. Addressing the crowd, Punjab Pradesh Congress (PPC) President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring stated that both the government and the Chief Minister had completely failed. He highlighted that the state's debt had exceeded ₹4 lakh crore and was projected to reach ₹4.17 lakh crore soon.

Warring pointed out that no funds had been allocated for development in Punjab, as the AAP wasted resources campaigning in Delhi, Gujarat, and Goa. He noted that not a single brick had been laid for infrastructure projects, with thousands of crores spent solely on advertisements. The Punjab Congress President reminded the AAP of its promises to provide women with a monthly stipend, reinstate the old pension scheme for employees, and generate ₹20,000 crore in revenue from sand mining, as well as the pending dearness allowance (DA). He concluded by stating that after four years of mismanagement by the AAP, the people of Punjab are now demanding accountability.
