Security Forces Crack Down on Militants in Manipur

Imphal: On Thursday, law enforcement officials reported the capture of six militants affiliated with various banned groups across two districts in Manipur.

The arrests took place on Wednesday.

Among those detained was the self-proclaimed 'founder chairman' of the KCP (PWG), along with four other active members of the group, apprehended in the Langol region of Imphal West district, according to a police spokesperson.

Additionally, a 24-year-old individual linked to the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei) was taken into custody in the Lilong Chajing area of Thoubal district due to his suspected role in a bomb blast in the region.

Despite signing a peace agreement with the central government in 2023, members of the UNLF (P) continue to face arrests for their alleged criminal activities, the officer noted.

Violence erupted anew in Manipur on Wednesday, with suspected militants killing three church leaders and injuring four others in Kangpokpi district. In a separate incident, a civilian was shot dead, and his wife was injured in Noney district, officials reported.

Since May 2023, the northeastern state has experienced significant unrest, resulting in the deaths of at least 260 individuals and the displacement of thousands amid clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
