Boong's Remarkable Achievement


New Delhi, March 16: The film Boong, which has won a BAFTA award, has made history as the first Manipuri film to surpass Rs 1 crore in box office earnings during its re-release.


Produced by Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment, and Suitable Pictures, Boong secured the award for Best Children’s and Family Film at the BAFTA Awards held on February 22 at The Royal Festival Hall in London.


This accomplishment has put Manipur on the global cinematic stage and is celebrated as a significant milestone for the state's film industry.


Manipur's Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his congratulations to the team, noting that this recognition has drawn international attention to the creative talents and storytelling heritage of the state.


He emphasized that the film's success showcases the potential of Manipuri cinema and is likely to motivate more filmmakers from the region.


After the win, director Lakshmipriya Devi shared her hopes that the film would shed light on the challenges faced by children affected by the ongoing conflict in Manipur.


She expressed a desire for children in relief camps to find joy and a sense of normalcy again, stating that this recognition should inspire hope among the people of the state.


Boong, which premiered in theaters on March 6, tells the story of a young boy, portrayed by Gugun Kipgen, who longs to reunite his estranged family.
