Manipur Security Forces Intensify Operations Against Militants and Extortion
Security Forces Conduct Multiple Arrests in Manipur
Imphal, March 7: In a bid to strengthen efforts against extortion and militant activities in Manipur, security personnel apprehended three individuals linked to various underground groups during separate intelligence-led operations on Friday.
As per police reports, one of the arrested individuals, Wahengbam Premkumar Singh (37), also known as Demba, was taken into custody at his home in Khurai Sajor Lairou Pukhri Mapal, located under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. He is suspected of engaging in unlawful activities.
Additionally, his associate, Senjam Roken Singh (42), referred to as Rocket, was also arrested in the same locality. Authorities recovered a 9 mm pistol along with a magazine from him, in addition to two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card from the group.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces detained Ningthoujam Ningthoungamba Meitei (27), known as Mangang, at Imphal International Airport. He hails from Hingol Marup Zenhang in Churachandpur district and was residing at the Kwakta Relief Camp in Bishnupur district. Items seized from him included a mobile phone, a power bank, and a backpack filled with clothing.
Earlier, on March 5, two individuals associated with different underground organizations were arrested from Ithing Khola playground, which falls under Keibul Lamjao Police Station in Bishnupur district. They were identified as Khwairakpam Bedajit Singh (23), alias Kappa, an active member of PREPAK, and Shagolsem Ibochouba Singh (22), alias Tomba, affiliated with PLA.
Following their disclosures, security forces recovered significant items, including an HK-33 rifle with a magazine, 38 live rounds, and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the Takmu lakeside area near Ithing playground, along with military-style clothing.
In a related initiative, the Manipur Police organized an awareness program addressing crimes against women and children in conjunction with the Yaoshang festival at Takyel Khongbal in Imphal West district, as part of an ongoing public awareness campaign.
Security forces are actively conducting search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable regions across the state to uphold law and order.
