Manipur Police Seize Weapons and Ammunition Amid Ongoing Security Operations

In a significant operation, Manipur police and Central Armed Police Forces seized 86 firearms and 974 rounds of ammunition in a region plagued by ethnic strife. Major Arms Recovery in Manipur

On Tuesday, the police in Manipur, along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), successfully confiscated 86 firearms and 974 rounds of ammunition in a region that has experienced severe ethnic conflicts in recent years. According to reports from the state’s DGP office, this joint operation led to the recovery of grenades, IEDs, AK-series rifles, INSAS rifles, handguns, riot control weapons, and SBBL firearms across various districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur.

In a similar operation conducted on the night of July 3 and the morning of July 4, the Manipur police uncovered over 200 weapons during extensive searches in the hilly districts of the state. These raids are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms and restore peace in the area. With law and order remaining stable, the police have managed to seize a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during these search operations.




These initiatives are part of a broader crackdown involving the Manipur police, Assam Rifles, the Army, and CAPF. Last week, the police apprehended nine individuals, including six members of the Meitei organization Arambai Tengol and three militants from a banned group, all arrested in Bishnupur district. According to police statements, the six members of Arambai Tengol were involved in physically assaulting state police personnel during a shutdown on June 9.

Additionally, the police reported the arrest of seven individuals, including five militants from three banned organizations in Manipur. On Tuesday, they confirmed the capture of an active member of the banned People's Liberation Army in Thoubal district, who was involved in extortion and recruitment activities. Furthermore, two militants from the Kangleipak Communist Party (Miyamgi Fingang Lanmi) were apprehended on Monday in Thangal Bazar, Imphal West district.
