Manipur Petrol Dealers to Halt Operations Amid Security Concerns
Closure of Petrol Pumps in Manipur
Imphal, Jan 10: The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) has declared a shutdown of all petrol stations in the valley and surrounding areas starting Saturday until their demands are addressed.
This decision follows a recent explosion at the Elidas Fuel Station on Moirang Kumbi Road in Bishnupur district that occurred on Thursday.
On Friday, the MPDF communicated their concerns to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
The group is calling for improved security measures for petrol stations and their operators.
They have urged the government to prevent future bomb attacks and to provide compensation for any damages incurred at petrol stations.
Furthermore, they are demanding maximum financial support for any dealer or staff member who may be injured or killed, along with compensation for the damages sustained by the Elidas Fuel Station.
As a result of this announcement, long lines formed at petrol stations throughout Imphal.
Last month, during a meeting with state officials, MPDF representatives expressed their worries regarding financial extortion and threats faced by petrol station owners.
At that time, they had also threatened to close down operations after December 28, but the protest was averted following negotiations with state authorities.
