Governor's Review on Fuel Supply

Imphal, Aug 31: Manipur's Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has conducted a review regarding the dwindling fuel and LPG supplies in the state, following a series of landslides impacting the crucial NH-2 and NH-37 highways. This review meeting took place on Friday.

To restore fuel supplies and ensure sufficient availability for both residential and commercial needs, it was decided that the State Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Department, in collaboration with the State police and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, would organize a special convoy dedicated to transporting petroleum products (including petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel) along with LPG, as stated in a press release from CAF&PD secretary N Kheda Varta Singh.

The convoy, which departed from Jiribam early Saturday morning, comprises 158 tankers loaded with petrol and diesel, five trucks carrying aviation turbine fuel, and 29 trucks transporting LPG. These vehicles are anticipated to arrive in Imphal within two to three days, according to the release.

The Manipur Government has committed to taking all necessary measures to guarantee sufficient fuel availability for domestic and commercial use.

Earlier in August, the Churachandpur district administration, in partnership with the State Government and the Indian Air Force, successfully executed an airdrop of essential supplies to remote villages affected by landslides in the Henglep subdivision.

Reports indicate that approximately 18 villages in the Henglep subdivision have been isolated since July due to persistent rainfall causing multiple landslides along the Churachandpur–Tipaimukh Road section of National Highway 2.

In a separate initiative, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with his wife Jyoti Bhalla, visited Andro town in the Imphal East District on Saturday. This visit aimed to engage with the region's rich cultural heritage and address local community concerns.

During their visit, the Governor observed the traditional process of rice wine production. At the Common Facilitation Centre for Pottery and Terracotta Crafts, the couple explored a variety of indigenous pottery items, showcasing Andro’s exceptional craftsmanship.
