Manipur DGP Issues Strong Warning to Armed Groups Amid Security Operations
DGP's Firm Stance on Security in Manipur
District Security Review meeting in Churchandpur
Imphal, June 14: Mukesh Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Manipur, has issued a clear warning to armed groups, asserting that security forces will respond decisively to any attacks and will persist with proactive measures until stability is restored in the region.
During his visits to the Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts on Saturday, Singh assessed the current law and order situation, ongoing security initiatives, and the resettlement efforts for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
"We will adopt a more proactive approach in our operations. Anyone wielding weapons and attempting to disrupt the law will face strict consequences. Those armed will be apprehended, and if they fire upon us, we will respond in self-defense. Our proactive operations will continue until normalcy is achieved," the DGP stated.
Accompanied by senior police officials, Singh conducted meetings with district police heads, Army personnel, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles, and representatives from various civil society organizations (CSOs).
This visit to Churachandpur marked Singh's first official trip to the district since taking over as DGP. He mentioned that discussions with police, Army, and paramilitary officers revolved around the current security landscape and ongoing operations statewide.
"Positive developments are underway, including efforts to resettle abandoned villages and IDPs. The situation has significantly improved, and we are closely monitoring the developments. Our commitment to restoring lasting peace in the state remains strong," he added.
Singh emphasized that violence from any individual or group is intolerable, stating that the killing of any person, regardless of their community, should be condemned.
He also noted that security measures alone cannot guarantee lasting peace, urging civil society organizations and community leaders to engage actively in reconciliation and confidence-building initiatives.
"For enduring peace, it is crucial for civil society to step forward, engage with one another, and work towards resolving differences," he remarked.
Addressing the role of misinformation in escalating tensions, Singh mentioned that the police are vigilantly monitoring social media to prevent the spread of false and inflammatory content.
"We have established a social media monitoring cell that takes action against those disseminating false information and content that could incite conflict. We are actively removing anti-social and anti-national content," he stated.
The issue of illegal and looted firearms was also a significant topic during discussions with security agencies, with Singh reiterating that recovering the remaining weapons is a top priority.
"Approximately 70% of the looted weapons have been recovered," he confirmed.
Earlier, on July 4, 2025, security forces had confiscated over 200 weapons, including firearms and military-grade supplies, during coordinated operations across the hill districts of Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur.
A police statement released on Sunday indicated that the DGP held meetings with district police officers, CAPFs, Assam Rifles, and civil society organizations during his visit.
The statement also highlighted that Singh reviewed the law and order, crime, and operational status at the District Police Headquarters in Bishnupur, emphasizing the importance of counter-insurgency and anti-drug operations while directing officers to expedite investigations and case resolutions handled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
