Imphal, Apr 3: Y. Khemchand Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, is set to embark on a multi-faceted visit to Jiribam district and nearby areas in Assam from April 4 to 6. This trip aims to blend administrative duties, political outreach, and efforts to foster peace in regions affected by violence.

This visit follows recent discussions with the Union Home Minister, where the current law and order situation in Manipur was assessed. Reports indicate that the Chief Minister has been urged to accelerate the peace process and enhance trust among communities.

As per the official schedule, the Chief Minister will travel by road from Imphal, arriving in Jiribam around noon on April 4. His itinerary includes visits to significant locations such as a police outpost and the district hospital, along with a joint community meeting at New Alipur Naga village.

In a bid to build confidence, he plans to meet internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in relief camps and partake in a community feast that will include members from both the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities.

This marks his second visit to Jiribam since the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, 2023, which has resulted in over 260 fatalities and displaced approximately 62,000 individuals, highlighting the district's ongoing sensitivity and strategic significance.

On April 5, Singh will lay the foundation stone for an inter-state truck terminus and other initiatives at Chandrapur in Jiribam, indicating a renewed emphasis on infrastructure and connectivity in this border area.

The agenda also includes campaign events in neighboring Assam, with scheduled activities in Silchar and Hailakandi districts, showcasing a parallel political outreach effort.

Security measures have been significantly enhanced for this visit, with anti-sabotage teams and sniffer dog units assigned to secure routes and venues beforehand. The Chief Minister, who is under Z+ category security, will be accompanied by various Ministers, MLAs, and senior political figures.

Prior to this visit, Singh returned to Manipur and met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. He also conferred with the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, discussing plans for hosting the Durand Cup 2026 in the state.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government's dedication to ensuring a secure and well-organized sporting event while continuing efforts to restore normalcy and stability throughout Manipur.
