Manipur CM Y Khemchand Singh Visits New Delhi to Address Key Issues

Imphal, Aug 30: On Sunday, Manipur's Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh embarked on his second trip to New Delhi in just a few days.
Before his departure, Khemchand informed the media, "I plan to meet with senior Central leaders to discuss various pressing matters related to Manipur."
His previous visit concluded only on Thursday, where he had discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
This latest journey comes at a time when there is a resurgence of activism in Manipur advocating for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), alongside other state-related issues.
Khemchand expressed his gratitude towards the leaders of 14 civil society organizations (CSOs) and a group of MLAs who recently traveled to New Delhi to advocate for the NRC's implementation in Manipur.
He noted, "The campaign received a favorable response in New Delhi."
The Chief Minister urged all community members to avoid calling for bandhs and blockades to express their demands, instead encouraging peaceful democratic protests.
He stated, "Such actions often lead to unnecessary incidents and create additional difficulties for the general public. Women vendors, who rely on daily agricultural sales, suffer significant losses during shutdowns, while students experience interruptions in their studies."
Khemchand reassured that both the Central and Manipur governments are dedicated to meeting the people's needs, emphasizing that shutdowns would not be beneficial.
Highlighting the importance of students as the future of society, he called on all parties to ensure that the academic calendar remains uninterrupted.
He also warned that strict measures would be enforced against anyone who breaks the law or attempts to incite chaos during protests.
In addition, Khemchand pointed out the recent revival of inter-state bus services between Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati after more than three years.
He remarked, "This bus service will alleviate the financial burden on residents, especially those who have had to rely on costly air travel between Imphal and Guwahati."
The Chief Minister's swift return to New Delhi reflects the heightened focus on the NRC issue, with civil society groups and legislators actively engaging with Central leaders and officials.
