Imphal, Apr 5: Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to restoring peace in the violence-affected regions of Manipur, emphasizing the importance of overcoming the 'trust deficit' among various communities.
During his visit to the planned Inter-State Truck Terminus site in Jiribam, Singh highlighted that achieving enduring peace is a primary goal for his government.
“Every community desires peace, and it is essential to eliminate the trust deficit. My aim is to bring back tranquility,” he stated.
Singh pointed out Jiribam's significant role in fostering reconciliation, noting a recent event where individuals from diverse communities came together to share a meal, which he described as a 'memorable' occasion following the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.
He also mentioned that the government is considering tourism development projects at the truck terminus site, in collaboration with the Town Planning Department, due to the availability of land in the vicinity.
Marking his second visit to Jiribam since taking office, Singh expressed that the government is committed to enhancing inter-community relationships while advancing developmental projects in the area.
As part of his visit, the Chief Minister participated in a tree plantation initiative organized by the Jiribam Forest Division, alongside MLAs and senior officials.
This visit occurs as the state government continues its efforts to stabilize law and order and promote development in sensitive areas of Manipur.
In a related incident, students from Manipur University protested on Sunday following a bomb explosion on campus. The blast took place near the teachers' quarters in the Canchipur area around 7:30 PM on Saturday, according to police reports.
Officials confirmed that five teachers live in the quarters but reported no injuries from the explosion. Students displayed placards demanding, 'Give us educational freedom, uphold the law, we condemn the blast.'
