Imphal/New Delhi, June 10: On Wednesday, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, held a meeting with Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in New Delhi. The discussion revolved around several crucial infrastructure initiatives in the state.
As per reports from the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Singh provided an update to Gadkari regarding the measures taken by the state government to address obstacles impacting significant national highway projects, notably the long-awaited Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur highways.
Regarding National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road), Singh informed Gadkari that land compensation issues in Noney district had been resolved after a revised survey and subsequent approval from the state Cabinet.
He mentioned that construction work on the project has recommenced and expressed optimism about an increase in the construction pace.
The Imphal-Jiribam Highway is vital as it acts as Manipur's main connection to the rest of India, linking Imphal with Jiribam, the state's only railhead, and facilitating the transport of essential goods such as fuel, medicines, and construction materials.
Concerning the Imphal-Dimapur Highway, the Chief Minister noted that issues in Kangpokpi district had been addressed, and a special package approved by the state Cabinet had propelled the project forward.
He reiterated the government's dedication to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure the project's timely completion.
Singh also informed Gadkari about the challenges facing the Imphal-Ukhrul-Jessami Highway, particularly unresolved land issues in specific areas.
He stated that the state government is working with local stakeholders, community leaders, and landowners to expedite resolutions and ensure the project's smooth execution.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to tackle land acquisition and compensation issues, contractor-related challenges, local objections, and other administrative obstacles that have hindered progress on various highway sections.
During their discussion, Singh also requested prompt approval for the proposed elevated highway project in Imphal, highlighting its significance in enhancing urban connectivity, alleviating traffic congestion, and ensuring smoother vehicular movement in the city and its surroundings.
Gadkari reportedly responded favorably, assuring the Chief Minister that the proposal would be given due consideration.
