Mani Shankar Aiyar Critiques Modi's Secularism and Love Jihad Claims

Aiyar's Criticism of Modi and BJP

Former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. During an event in Jaipur, he sharply criticized the inauguration of the Ram Temple and the issue of Hindutva. Aiyar remarked that the Prime Minister overlooked all Shankaracharyas by personally inaugurating the temple, which he views as contrary to secularism. He emphasized that the Prime Minister of India should not adhere to any personal religion.

Statements on Triple Talaq and Muslim Women

Addressing the topic of the Muslim community and the triple talaq issue, Aiyar claimed that the BJP is making false assertions. He argued that according to the Quran, having four wives is only feasible if equal attention is given to all, which is quite challenging. Citing an old inquiry committee (Gopal Singh Committee), he asserted that the practice of having two wives is more prevalent among Hindus and Sikhs than among Muslims. Aiyar questioned how claiming to 'liberate' Muslim women by banning triple talaq aligns with Hindutva.

Objection to 'Love Jihad' and Personal Attacks

Aiyar also expressed his disapproval of the term 'love jihad.' He stated that love cannot be associated with jihad or revenge, labeling the term as a creation of BJP members. Additionally, he responded to past attacks from PM Modi, clarifying that he referred to the Prime Minister as a 'lowly type of man' rather than 'lowly' itself, asserting that his words were misrepresented. He further questioned Modi's historical knowledge, suggesting that someone lacking accurate information about Nalanda and Takshashila cannot replace Nehru.

Controversy Over Tea Seller Claims

Aiyar raised significant allegations regarding the Prime Minister's past as a 'tea seller.' He pointed out that until 1973, there was no railway platform in Modi's hometown of Vadnagar, questioning where he could have sold tea. Aiyar accused Modi of reaching power through such false claims and rumors. He also mentioned that such narratives have contributed to a communal society in the country, particularly against Muslims.
