The administration in Mandi district has activated all departments in response to the anticipated strike by HRTC drivers and conductors, implementing extensive contingency plans to ensure public transport remains operational and law and order is upheld.
A high-level meeting was convened by Additional Deputy Commissioner Gursimar Singh on Wednesday to evaluate readiness across various departments. This meeting included participation from Additional District Magistrate Dr. Madan Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Verma, and all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), with HRTC regional managers joining remotely.
Key topics of discussion included ensuring the continuity of public transport services, enhancing law enforcement measures, and providing sufficient alternative transport options for commuters in the event of disruptions.
ADC Gursimar Singh emphasized that the primary goal of the administration is to prevent any inconvenience for citizens during their commutes and to keep essential services running smoothly. He confirmed that buses scheduled for operation starting Thursday morning would be permitted to run without hindrance.
He urged that any industrial action should remain peaceful and that public services must not be affected under any circumstances. All SDMs were instructed to maintain close communication with HRTC officials and to ensure timely preventive measures are in place locally.
To bolster alternative transport options, the administration has decided to fully utilize private bus services throughout the district. Special monitoring will be established in areas heavily reliant on HRTC routes. The ADC also called on private educational institutions to offer their school buses for public use if necessary.
Reiterating the importance of maintaining law and order, he directed all field officers to ensure effective coordination among departments to prevent disruptions to essential services. Comprehensive contingency plans have been set in motion to manage any situations arising from the proposed strike.
Security measures have been significantly enhanced, with police personnel assigned to bus stands, HRTC workshops, depots, and other sensitive areas around the clock. Increased patrolling will be conducted to ensure public safety and peace.
Singh also mentioned that Home Guard personnel may be deployed if needed to assist with bus operations and to ensure that commuters do not encounter transportation issues. He reassured that the district administration is fully equipped to manage any situation and is dedicated to maintaining public convenience.
