The Mandi district administration, along with SDM Balh Smritika Negi, is set to be honored with the Civil Service Award for their exemplary efforts during the disaster of 2025. This prestigious award will be presented on April 15 during the Himachal Day celebrations in Reckong Peo, with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu officiating the ceremony.

Outstanding Disaster Response

This recognition follows the severe disaster that affected various regions in Mandi, including Seraj, Gohar, Karsog, and Dharampur. The administration's commitment to on-ground operations ensured effective relief and rescue efforts, even in the face of daunting challenges.

Many areas were cut off for days, with Seraj being reconnected only after nearly five days. During this critical time, Tehsildar Rajat Sethi led operations in isolated regions, while ASP Sagar Chandra Sharma undertook arduous treks to reach those in need. Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, later accessed these areas via air, facilitating quicker evacuation and relief efforts. Stranded tourists from other states were also safely rescued as operations ramped up.

Compassionate Leadership

In a separate incident in Ramvan, Sundernagar, the Deputy Commissioner took charge of rescue operations following casualties, ensuring effective coordination and rapid response.

SDM Balh Smritika Negi was pivotal in orchestrating multi-agency efforts involving the SDRF, NDRF, police, and local authorities. She personally visited the most affected areas to evaluate conditions and guarantee timely assistance.

Her compassionate intervention for an 11-month-old orphaned child named Nikita was particularly noteworthy. She facilitated necessary documentation, ensured financial access through banking processes, and secured official support for the child, showcasing a blend of humanitarian concern and administrative efficiency.

Innovative Public Service Initiatives

In addition to disaster management, the Mandi district administration has been recognized for its public service initiatives, such as the 'Apna Pustakalaya' program, which enhances access to educational resources at the local level.

The administration's effective coordination, field monitoring, and integration of digital systems have allowed for timely relief, rehabilitation, and support for hundreds of families affected by the disaster.
