Manchester United in Advanced Talks for Bruno Guimaraes Transfer
Manchester United Pursues Bruno Guimaraes
Reports indicate that Manchester United has made significant progress in negotiations regarding personal terms with Bruno Guimaraes, a midfielder for Newcastle United. The player's representatives are urging the club's co-owners, INEOS, to finalize an agreement with Newcastle.
Interest in Guimaraes has surged recently, as United aims to secure two new midfielders this summer, especially with Casemiro expected to leave at the season's end. Earlier reports from a Spanish media outlet suggested that Casemiro has recommended Guimaraes as a suitable replacement.
Although Guimaraes is contracted with Newcastle until 2028, sources indicate that United is in advanced discussions. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that meetings have occurred between the club and the player's agents.
Romano stated, 'Yes, a meeting did take place in recent weeks between Guimaraes’ representatives and Manchester United. United maintains a good relationship with the agency. From there, meetings can lead to agreements on personal terms, and eventually to registering the player in the summer, but there is still a long way to go.'
Pressure from Advisors for Newcastle Negotiations
An account on X, featuring five reporters, has claimed that Guimaraes has reached an agreement on personal terms with United and is prepared for a summer transfer. The account noted, 'Bruno Guimaraes’s advisors are pushing Manchester United to reach an agreement with Newcastle United.'
However, Newcastle is not expected to easily approve a sale. Reports suggest that the Magpies value Guimaraes at approximately £100 million ($133 million). Manager Eddie Howe has also downplayed the rumors, asserting that the midfielder is dedicated to the club.
On March 20, Howe remarked, 'I don’t even know how to respond to that. It is a waste of my energy. Bruno is our captain, and he is fully committed at the moment. He is injured at the moment; his only focus is coming back to fitness.'
Since joining Newcastle from Lyon in 2022, Guimaraes has become a pivotal player, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's top midfielders. His potential exit would be a significant setback for Howe's team, especially considering his impact both on and off the field.
For Manchester United, acquiring Guimaraes would represent a crucial advancement in their midfield overhaul. With Casemiro's departure and other targets like Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson also being considered, the club's summer transfer strategy is poised to be one of the most critical in recent years.
