Arrest in Major Theft Case

New Delhi, August 7 – A 40-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with a theft case involving ₹7.79 lakh from a shop in the Khari Baoli market area of Old Delhi. Authorities reported on Friday that they recovered ₹2.32 lakh in cash from the suspect.


According to North Delhi's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raja Banthia, the incident occurred on the night of July 28. An unidentified individual allegedly broke a window of the shop and made off with the substantial amount from the safe.


During the investigation, police discovered that the suspect had also stolen the shop's CCTV DVR in an attempt to destroy evidence. The DCP mentioned that teams reviewed footage from over 100 CCTV cameras in the vicinity, leading them to find that the suspect had taken refuge at a relative's home in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested on August 2.


Authorities stated that ₹2.32 lakh in cash was recovered from his residence, while an accomplice remains at large and is expected to be located soon.
