On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reaffirmed her dedication to fighting against forces that spread hatred and communal discord. She emphasized her government's commitment to uphold and strengthen the constitutional ideals and principles of the nation.

Foundation Stone Ceremony for Mosque

Banerjee's remarks came ahead of a ceremony in Murshidabad district where suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir was set to lay the foundation stone for a mosque modeled after the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. The event was announced to take place on December 6, a date that marks the anniversary of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Uttar Pradesh.

Unity Day Observance

The Trinamool Congress plans to observe this date as 'Sanghati Divas' (Unity Day), calling for harmony, peace, and a united front against divisive elements.

A Message of Unity

In a post on 'X', Banerjee stated, 'Bengal is a land of unity. It is the land of Rabindranath (Tagore), Nazrul (Islam), and Ramakrishna-Vivekananda. This land has never bowed to divisive actions and will continue to stand strong in the future.'

Celebrating Diversity

She further noted that people of various faiths in Bengal—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, and Buddhists—know how to walk shoulder to shoulder. 'We share our joys with one another, as we believe that practicing one's faith is a fundamental right of every individual,' she added.

Tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

Banerjee extended her wishes for 'Sanghati Divas' and stated that the fight against those inciting communal hatred and playing destructive games against the nation will persist. She expressed her commitment to uphold the ideals and principles of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as enshrined in the Constitution. On Ambedkar's death anniversary, she paid tribute to the great thinker and social reformer, acknowledging his everlasting contribution to the drafting of India's Constitution.
