Mamata Banerjee Addresses Criticism of West Bengal

On Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal refuted criticisms aimed at the state, asserting that attempts to tarnish Bengal's reputation will not succeed. She highlighted the state's growing economic and cultural significance, stating that while some individuals wish to defame Bengal, they are unaware of the substantial changes that have occurred. Today, Bengal stands as one of the key logistics hubs, serving as a gateway to Southeast Asia, Eastern India, and the Northeastern states, bordered by Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha.

Banerjee emphasized that Bengal is a peaceful state and dismissed any negative narratives circulating on social media as falsehoods intended to damage its image. She pointed out that misleading information often originates from dubious social media sources that post videos or spread misinformation to discredit Bengal. However, she challenged anyone attempting to harm the state, asserting that they will not succeed.

The Chief Minister also discussed the state's economic and educational initiatives. She announced that 350 acres of land in Uttarpara, Hooghly district, will be allocated to Umesh Chaudhary for wagon manufacturing. Furthermore, she noted that West Bengal has become the second-largest tourist destination in India and highlighted the government's efforts to provide 1.6 million bicycles annually to students in government schools from class 9.

Regarding religious and cultural projects, Banerjee revealed that the foundation stone for the Durgaangan will be laid on December 29 in Rajarhat, and confirmed the establishment of a trust for the Mahakal Temple in Siliguri.

Commenting on the renaming of MGNREGA to VB Ji Ram Ji, Banerjee expressed her disappointment, stating, "Gandhi Ji is the father of the nation. If he is not honored, I feel ashamed, but we will continue to respect him." She urged for a focus on positivity rather than negativity, saying, "Instead of criticizing, sometimes be positive. Silence is a powerful weapon, and there is no cure for jealousy. We have created job opportunities and wish for every trader and citizen to live peacefully."
