Mamata Banerjee's Optimism Amid Election Results

On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her confidence that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will emerge victorious in the ongoing assembly elections. Speaking to vote counting officials via video conferencing, she dismissed the predictions made by exit polls, labeling them as attempts to manipulate the stock market. She asserted, "We are winning, and we will secure over 200 seats. The exit polls are merely a tactic to influence the stock market, a strategy they have employed in 2021, 2024, and now again." Banerjee accused the Central Armed Police Forces of committing atrocities against TMC workers and promised that victims would be compensated.

TMC's Actions Before Vote Counting

She indicated that in the coming days, the party would reward those affected by the CAPF's brutality. Her remarks came during the re-polling for two assembly seats in the South 24 Parganas district. Amit Malviya, co-in-charge of the BJP in West Bengal, alleged that during the second phase of assembly elections, voters were prevented from choosing the party candidate at several polling stations in the Diamond Harbour constituency. As of 3 PM on Saturday, voter turnout was recorded at 72.5% across 11 polling stations in the Magrahat West assembly, while 72.36% was noted at 4 polling stations in Diamond Harbour, resulting in an overall turnout of 72.43%.

Ensuring Smooth Voting Process

To prevent any disruptions during the voting process, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed near polling stations. Micro observers are closely monitoring the voting, with oversight from the Kolkata Election Commission office. Meanwhile, exit poll data suggests a competitive race in West Bengal, with most forecasts indicating the BJP in the lead. Chanakya Strategies predicts that the BJP could win between 150-160 of the 294 assembly seats, achieving a majority. It estimates that the TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, may secure 30-40 seats, while other parties could obtain between six to ten seats.
