Mamata Banerjee Meets Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister

On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held discussions with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Kolkata. During their meeting, she urged the central government to take swift action to ensure security in Jammu and Kashmir. Banerjee emphasized the importance of promoting tourism in the region.


Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude towards Mamata Banerjee for her empathy towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He recalled that during a politically challenging period in 2019, she had voiced her concerns, stating that the situation was troubling.

Abdullah further noted that following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, Banerjee had sent a team to assist those affected by the shelling. He came to thank her and extend an invitation for her to visit Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning that he has been her guest on several occasions. He expressed hope for closer collaboration between Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal in trade, industrialization, and tourism.


In response, Mamata Banerjee accepted the invitation to visit Jammu and Kashmir, stating that she would try to go after the Durga Puja festivities. She reassured that tourists should feel safe visiting Kashmir, highlighting its beauty and significance to the nation. Banerjee expressed her admiration for Kashmir and her heartfelt affection for its people.

She also mentioned plans for collaboration between the tourism and technical education departments. Banerjee encouraged entrepreneurs and those in the tourism sector to work with both the Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal governments to facilitate mutual visits and cultural exchange programs. She welcomed Kashmiri women to participate in the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
