Major Welfare Initiatives Announced for 1.8 Lakh Households in Baksa District

Welfare Schemes to Benefit Thousands
Guwahati, July 5: On Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that around 1.8 lakh families in Baksa district will gain from the state’s prominent welfare programs.
This announcement followed an extensive review meeting with district officials, members of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), and cabinet ministers during his five-day tour of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The Chief Minister stated, “We assessed the implementation of five key welfare initiatives in the area. In Baksa, approximately 45,000 families were already beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme, and we have now expanded this to 60,000, adding 15,000 more households.”
Sarma emphasized the outreach of these programs, noting that over 60,000 women from Baksa and Manas have been recognized as beneficiaries of the Mahila Udyomita scheme.
He also highlighted the advancements in the Mukhya Mantri Atmanirbhar Assam initiative, which will provide Rs 2 lakh each to 1,200 youths in Baksa this year to encourage self-employment.
“Last year, 400 youths from Baksa received Rs 1 lakh each under this initiative. I’m pleased to report that 60 of them have successfully accessed Mudra or PMEGP loans and are now eligible for a second installment of Rs 1 lakh,” he added.
Some beneficiaries have already shared success stories, reporting annual incomes of up to Rs 6 lakh due to the support from these programs.
Additionally, Sarma announced that 4,000 new ration cards will be issued in Baksa and Manas, and a review of the Eti Koli Duti Paat welfare scheme for workers at Fatemabad and Dumahi Tea Estates was conducted.
“All these initiatives will be implemented this month, ensuring full collaboration between BTC members and cabinet ministers,” the Chief Minister assured.
Sarma expressed his contentment with the opportunity to visit districts in the BTR and personally assess the developmental progress and challenges faced.
