Law Enforcement Operation Results in Fatal Encounter

A significant member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, identified as Naveen Kumar (37), was killed during a late-night encounter on Wednesday involving a joint team from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Delhi Police's Special Cell. The operation was initiated based on intelligence regarding the presence of wanted criminals in the area. Amitabh Yash, the Additional Director General of Law and Order, reported that when the suspects were intercepted, they opened fire on the police team, leading to a fierce gunfight.


Details of the Encounter

According to a senior police official, the encounter took place in the Hapur Kotwali area, where the STF's Noida unit and the Special Cell engaged with the criminals. One of the assailants was critically injured during the confrontation. The deceased was recognized as Naveen Kumar, a notorious member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who had been evading law enforcement in connection with serious charges, including murder and violations of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).


Medical Confirmation of Death

Yash confirmed that the injured suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Kumar was identified as a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, and he was known to be an active shooter within the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, often collaborating with another gang member, Hashim Baba.


Criminal Background

Officials revealed that Kumar had a long criminal history, with around 20 cases registered against him in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery, as well as cases under MCOCA. His criminal record began in 2008 when he was first charged under the Arms Act in Seemapuri. In 2009, he was allegedly involved in a murder in the Sahibabad area, and in 2010, he faced charges under the Gangster Act.
