Major Shift in Chhattisgarh: 25 Maoists Surrender, Marking a New Era in Anti-Naxal Efforts
Significant Surrender of Maoist Cadres
In a significant advancement for anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, 25 members of the Maoist group linked to the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee have surrendered, reintegrating into society. This event took place on Tuesday as part of the “Poona Margem” rehabilitation initiative aimed at fostering rejuvenation.
The individuals who surrendered, including 12 women, had a combined bounty of Rs 1.47 crore on their heads. Their surrender coincided with a historic achievement for security forces, who recovered assets totaling Rs 14.06 crore, which includes Rs 2.90 crore in cash and 7.20 kilograms of gold valued at Rs 11.16 crore.
Moreover, authorities seized 93 deadly weapons, such as LMGs, AK-47s, SLRs, and INSAS rifles.
Among the notable figures who surrendered are senior Maoist leaders like Mangal Korsa, also known as Motu, Akash alias Phagu Uika, divisional committee member Shankar Muchaki, area committee member Raju Raiyam alias Munna, and Pale Kursam.
These individuals expressed their realization of the futility of ongoing violence and opted to join the national mainstream. The surrender ceremony was graced by senior officials, including Inspector General of Police for the Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, Deputy Inspector General of Police BS Negi, Superintendent of Police Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav, along with other police and administrative personnel, and family members of the surrendering cadres.
Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 1,003 Maoist cadres have surrendered in Bijapur district as part of this rehabilitation initiative. The total recoveries in the area now amount to Rs 19.43 crore, which includes Rs 6.63 crore in cash and 8.20 kilograms of gold.
The Chhattisgarh government, in collaboration with central security forces, is committed to providing comprehensive support for the rehabilitation, security, and dignified reintegration of these former cadres into society.
Security agencies have urged remaining Maoist members to abandon their arms and return to the mainstream, promising them a safe and promising future.
