Major Security Operation in Jammu: IEDs and Weapons Seized in Poonch Forest

Significant Recovery in Poonch District

Jammu: On Wednesday, security forces successfully uncovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), firearms, and ammunition in the forests of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The White Knight Corps, based in Nagrota, announced via a post on X that a coordinated operation was initiated in the Gani forest area following intelligence reports, leading to the discovery of weapons hidden in a cave.

This operation was designated as Operation Gani.

According to the post, "Utilizing combined intelligence from our sources and @JmuKmrPolice, a joint operation was executed by the White Knight Corps troops and SOG Poonch in the Gani Forest area. The meticulous search resulted in the recovery of a terrorist cache concealed within a natural cave."

The Army reported the recovery of a large IED weighing 4.5 kg, a smaller IED of 800 grams, two Chinese grenades, a 9 mm pistol, two rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and twenty-two rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from the site.

The Bomb Disposal Team safely destroyed the IEDs and grenades on-site to protect both civilians and military personnel.

The Army concluded their post with, "The hunt continues... We Serve, We Protect!"

Local police have registered a case at the Mendhar Police Station regarding this incident.

This operation follows the successful elimination of three terrorists supported by Pakistan in the Kishtwar district during Operation TRASHI-I.

The J&K Police, along with other security forces, are actively conducting anti-terror operations in the region, while the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are tasked with securing the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border (IB).

Jammu and Kashmir features a 740 km-long LoC and a 240 km-long IB, with the LoC located in the Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla districts of the Valley, as well as in Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district. The IB runs through Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts.

The Army and BSF are deployed to prevent cross-border infiltration, drug trafficking, and drone activities originating from Pakistan.

In addition to their anti-terrorism efforts, security forces are also focusing on drug smugglers, peddlers, and individuals involved in hawala and other illegal financial operations.

It is suspected that the proceeds from these illegal activities are ultimately used to fund terrorism in the union territory.
