Major Security Operation in Delhi Leads to Arrest of Terror Suspect
Significant Breakthrough in National Security
A significant development has emerged from the capital, Delhi, where security agencies have achieved a major success. Based on reliable intelligence, the Delhi Police's Special Cell, along with central agencies, set a trap and apprehended a terrorist as he entered the city limits. The suspect, identified as Shabbir Ahmed Lone, has been allegedly involved in orchestrating a large terrorist module against India for an extended period.
Investigations revealed that Lone was operating under the direction of Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, from Bangladesh. His objective was to establish a new terrorist network in India and recruit local youth for terrorist activities. This is not the first time Lone has been linked to terrorism; he was previously arrested in 2007 with a significant cache of weapons, including AK-47s and grenades.
Previous Arrests and Connections
Following his arrest in 2007, Lone was sentenced and incarcerated in Tihar Jail until 2018. However, after his release, he re-engaged in terrorist activities. Sources indicate that he has direct connections with Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders, including Hafiz Saeed and his deputy, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Furthermore, he received training at terrorist camps in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, where he underwent both basic and advanced terrorist training.
Agencies have also discovered that Lone was targeting young individuals illegally residing in India via Bangladesh to involve them in terrorist plots. Recently, this terrorist module has been implicated in the distribution of anti-India posters in several cities, including Delhi and Kolkata.
Ongoing Investigations
Lone's initial arrest in 2007 by the Special Cell was due to his possession of a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle and grenades. At that time, officials confirmed his direct links to Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and Lashkar commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. After being granted bail, Lone resurfaced in Bangladesh, where he reportedly reorganized the Lashkar network and continued coordinating operations targeting India.
Authorities are currently interrogating Lone to gather comprehensive information about recruitment channels, funding routes, and potential targets within India.
