Major Naxalite Encounters in Chhattisgarh Result in Over 12 Deaths
Significant Naxalite Operations in Bastar Region
In the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, security forces engaged in two separate encounters on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of more than 12 Naxalites, according to police officials. The authorities reported that over ten Naxalites were killed in Sukma district, while two others were eliminated in the neighboring Bijapur district.
A senior police officer indicated that the clashes occurred during an anti-Naxalite operation in the forests of the southern area of Sukma. He mentioned that more than ten Naxalites have been neutralized so far, and the operation is still ongoing. Further details will be provided later.
Another official confirmed that in the southern region of Bijapur, security forces successfully killed two Naxalites during the encounter. This operation was initiated based on intelligence regarding the presence of armed Maoists, leading to the deployment of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) for a search mission.
The officer noted that intermittent gunfire between the security forces and Naxalites has been ongoing since 5 AM on Saturday. So far, the bodies of two Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site.
Officials stated that the operation is still active, and therefore, sensitive information regarding the location of the encounter, the number of security personnel involved, and other critical details cannot be disclosed at this time to ensure the safety of the troops. Comprehensive information will be shared once the operation concludes. Last year, security forces reported the elimination of 285 Naxalites during similar encounters.
