Major Gambling Operation Dismantled in Guwahati

Police Crackdown on Illegal Gambling
Jorabat, July 16: In a significant operation against organized gambling, authorities from Sonapur Police conducted a raid at the luxurious Club Nirvana located on the outskirts of Guwahati, uncovering a high-stakes casino-style gambling ring reportedly involving transactions amounting to several crores.
The operation took place this morning, resulting in the arrest of four individuals from Mizoram, all hailing from Aizawl. They have been identified as Lalchanhima Sailo, Lalfakawma Ralte, Lalring Heta, and Joseph Lalparmawia. Additionally, staff and management members of Club Nirvana have been taken into custody for questioning regarding the illegal gambling activities occurring on their premises.
After the successful operation, DCP (East) Mrinal Deka addressed the media, stating, "We have effectively dismantled a casino-style gambling operation at Club Nirvana, seizing chips, cash, liquor, and other pertinent evidence. Four individuals from Mizoram are now in custody. A case is being filed, and stringent actions will ensue."
According to police sources, the raid was prompted by specific intelligence regarding illegal activities at Club Nirvana over the last few days. Access to the venue was completely restricted during the operation, and all individuals present were thoroughly searched.
This is not the first instance of Club Nirvana being scrutinized by law enforcement; it had previously been raided in connection with IPL betting activities.
During the raid, police also discovered a significant number of casino cards. Officials suspect that a larger network may be involved, and interrogations of the detained individuals are currently ongoing to identify any accomplices and financiers behind the gambling operation.
