Major Drug Trafficking Operation Uncovered: Three Arrested in Delhi
Interstate Drug Syndicate Busted
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Authorities have dismantled an interstate drug trafficking operation, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including the alleged mastermind who utilized his toy packaging business in Delhi as a cover for smuggling illegal substances, officials reported on Thursday.
The police stated that this syndicate had transported over 5,000 kg of ganja from Odisha to Delhi within the last year.
The arrested individuals include Sonu, 30, from Khichdipur in East Delhi, Ajeet, 41, the suspected kingpin from Jwala Puri in West Delhi, and Rudrapratap Suar, also known as Pappu, from Odisha.
Investigators revealed that Ajeet operated his toy-packing business in Nihal Vihar as a facade for storing and distributing the drugs.
The cannabis was cleverly hidden in boxes labeled as cashew nuts and shipped via courier services.
The operation was initiated following a tip-off received on December 24, indicating that Sonu and Ajeet were expected to receive a shipment of cannabis in the Mangol Puri area.
A specialized raiding team was assembled, and surveillance was established. Around 8:40 PM, two individuals arrived separately on scooters and were observed transferring cartons.
Upon apprehension, they were identified as Sonu and Ajeet. A subsequent search uncovered three cartons, each containing 15 packets, which were analyzed by a forensic team and confirmed to hold 47.34 kg of cannabis.
A case was filed under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, leading to their arrest.
During questioning, Ajeet revealed that the shipment had been sent by a supplier known as Pappu Suar from Odisha.
Following this lead, Ajeet was taken to Odisha during police custody, where officials confirmed that another shipment of seven boxes had been sent to Delhi via courier.
Acting on this information, police raided a courier office in Delhi, recovering an additional 118.4 kg of cannabis, bringing the total seizure to 165.74 kg.
Further inquiries resulted in the arrest of Rudrapratap Suar, the primary supplier based in Puri, Odisha, after nearly three weeks of surveillance, and he was subsequently brought to Delhi.
Sonu, who worked as a laborer, was reportedly compensated Rs 10,000 for each consignment he received on behalf of Ajeet.
Authorities noted that the syndicate had orchestrated over 100 deliveries in the past year. The operation also led to the confiscation of two mobile phones, two scooters, and other incriminating evidence. Investigations are ongoing.
