Major Drug Bust in Sonbhadra: Police Seize 450 Kg of Cannabis
Significant Drug Seizure in Uttar Pradesh
In a significant operation on Sunday, law enforcement in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, uncovered 4.42 quintals (approximately 450 kilograms) of cannabis hidden among glass bottles in a truck. Two inter-state traffickers were apprehended during this raid, as confirmed by a police official on Monday.
According to reports, the seized cannabis is valued at around ₹1.10 crore.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma stated that the local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) acted on a tip-off, setting up a blockade at Hathwani turn and halting a DCM truck coming from Renukoot.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities discovered 442.50 kilograms of cannabis concealed in 19 plastic bags, with an estimated worth of ₹1.10 crore. The police arrested two suspects: Javed (43) from Osmanabad, Maharashtra, and Ismail (36) from Thane.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the truck had been entrusted to them by another individual near Bhubaneswar, who informed them that it was carrying glass and other goods. They were instructed to transport the truck to Firozabad.
The officer noted that cases have been registered against the arrested individuals under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and further action is underway.
