Lucknow, March 8, 2026: A significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics has been achieved in the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) apprehended a major drug trafficker in the Chowk police station area. Authorities recovered approximately 5.54 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth around 12 crores INR in the international market.

Reports indicate that the trafficker arrived in Lucknow concealing the drugs in a Hyundai Creta. He was stationed near a park in front of the Aga Bakar Imambara in the Chowk area, preparing to distribute the heroin in smaller packets to various locations. Acting on a tip-off, the Barabanki unit of the ANTF swiftly surrounded the area and caught the suspect red-handed.

In addition to the heroin, a mobile phone and some cash were also seized from the vehicle. Police believe that this trafficker has been using the Creta for transporting drugs for an extended period, utilizing hidden spots to evade detection during checks.

ANTF officials stated that further investigations are underway following the arrest. This operation has dealt a significant blow to the drug supply chain. Authorities are also working to identify the suspect's accomplices and the broader supply network.

This operation is seen as a crucial step towards the Yogi government's initiative for a 'Drug-Free Uttar Pradesh.' The police have urged the public to report any information regarding drug trafficking or supply.
