Guwahati, Oct 11: In a significant operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and confiscated 53.937 kg of methamphetamine tablets, estimated to be worth around ₹43 crore in the illegal market, in Guwahati on Sunday, as per an official announcement.
The individuals taken into custody are reported to be from the Bishnupur district of Manipur, according to the NCB.
This seizure was executed by the NCB's Guwahati zonal unit on October 6, following actionable intelligence, as part of their ongoing efforts to combat organized drug trafficking.
Upon receiving the tip-off, NCB officials intercepted two trucks and conducted thorough searches. They found cleverly concealed compartments within the fuel tanks of both vehicles, where the illegal substances were hidden.
The NCB stated that this operation has thwarted a significant drug trafficking attempt. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the international suppliers, domestic recipients, financiers, transporters, handlers, and other accomplices involved, with the goal of dismantling the entire supply chain.
Additionally, during a special initiative dubbed the “Absconder Drive Fortnight,” the NCB's Guwahati unit arrested six key suspects wanted in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Among those apprehended, two are from Assam, while one each is from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura.
The NCB emphasized that these arrests represent a crucial step towards ensuring that individuals evading justice are held accountable.
Recognizing the organized and transnational nature of drug trafficking, the NCB is committed to enhancing intelligence-sharing and coordinating operations with state police and other agencies to effectively target trafficking networks.
